Hickory 56, Norview 21
The Hawks, playing in their season opener, unveiled a newly installed triple-option offense, rolling up 489 total yards and scoring on each of their first eight possessions in a non-district victory Friday.
Quarterback George Godfrey completed all nine of his passes for 272 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score, while Shane Tew caught TD passes of 64 and 71 yards.
The Hawks, who led 35-7 at halftime, had 10 players carry the ball and finished with 217 rushing yards. Hickory limited Norview (0-2) to 34 rushing yards and blocked two punts.
Norview’s Ishmail Brown had an 83-yard kickoff return for a TD.

No. 8 Great Bridge 32, Granby 8
Brad Hudson threw four touchdown passes – including a 91-yarder to Brian Beard – as the Wildcats shook off a sluggish first half in a season-opening nondistrict victory.
Great Bridge led 6-2 at halftime on Hudson’s 22-yard TD pass to Adriel Mayes, but the Wildcats managed just two first downs before the break.
Hudson, though, hit Beard on a 91-yarder in the third quarter, then found Marc Meier for a 23-yard score and hit Mayes on a 12-yarder to pull away. Mayes also scored on a 4-yard run.
Granby (0-1) finished with five turnovers and went scoreless in the second half.

St. Anne’s-Belfield 27, Bishop Sullivan 7
Trailing 6-0, the Crusaders allowed a 64-yard halfback pass and an 80-yard run for touchdowns in the second quarter and never recovered.
The halfback pass – St. Anne’s first pass of the game – came on a fourth-and-13. The 80-yard run came on third-and-7 with 1:20 left before halftime.
Steven Swoope scored on a 48-yard pass from Brian Novak in the fourth quarter for Bishop Sullivan (1-1).
“They’re good, they’re huge and they’re strong,” Crusaders coach Rick Cox said. “It’s hard to compete against somebody like that. They’re the biggest team we’ll see all year.”
Norfolk Christian 62, Portsmouth Christian 12
Kwontie Moore scored four touchdowns – on an interception return, reception and two rushing scores – as the Ambassadors (2-0) rolled in a nonconference game at Portsmouth Christian (1-1).
The Ambassadors scored on their first seven offensive possessions, making it 34-6 after the first quarter.
Quarterback Breon Bailey threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns on nine completions.
Ryan Ellenberger, who set a school record for Portsmouth Christian with 200 yards rushing last week against Tidewater Academy, was held to 40 yards on nine attempts.
The Ambassadors defense forced five fumbles – recovering three – and intercepted two passes.

Atlantic Shores 56, Covenant 14
Jaquay Hall rushed for 235 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Seahawks (2-0) to a non-conference victory in Charlottesville.
Hall had TD runs of 90, 10 and 20 yards and was 1 of 3 Atlantic Shores ball carriers to gain 100-plus yards. The Seahawks finished with 530 rushing yards.
Covenant (0-2) led 7-0 after recovering a fumble in the end zone. But the Seahawks rattled off 42 unanswered points to build a 42-7 halftime lead. Four of those six touchdowns covered 20 or more yards, and Atlantic Shores also scored with a safety.

The Dukes picked up their sixth consecutive victory over Nansemond-Suffolk in the season opener for both teams.
Greenbrier Christian 34, Hampton Christian 20
T.J. Raynard scored touchdowns of 45, 46 and 80 yards to lead the Gators to victory in a nondistrict season opener.
Raynard ran for scores of 45 and 46 yards in the second quarter and added an 80-yard kickoff return for a TD in the third quarter.
Nick Jessee ran for a 1-yard touchdown and threw a 20-yard scoring strike to Adam Brinkley as the Gators snapped a four-game losing streak dating back to last year.
Greenbrier Christian finished with 322 rushing yards on 46 attempts.
Hampton Christian fell to 0-2.
Thursday’s highlights
Churchland 49, King’s Fork 14: Wilonte Roscoe threw for 244 yards and four TDs in the season opener for both teams. Jacorey Robins added 115 rushing yards and two scores for the Truckers, who limited King’s Fork to 8 passing yards.
No. 9 Kempsville 14, Tallwood 9: Rex Harrison’s 38-yard touchdown run helped the Chiefs (1-1) give coach Jamaine Paddyfoot his first win. Kempsville running back Travis Hughes, nursing an ankle injury, rushed for 57 yards on 18 attempts.
Landstown 48, Kellam 13: Larry Joshua threw for 136 yards, rushed for 103 yards and accounted for four TDs to lead the Eagles (2-0). Joshua, who has accounted for eight touchdowns in the first two games, helped Landstown score 29 second-half points.
First Colonial 24, Princess Anne 21: Joey Brown scored on a 1-yard run with 10:03 left in the game as the Patriots rallied. First Colonial (1-1) scored with a safety in the third quarter, then forced a fumble and interception in the fourth. Princess Anne (0-2), vying for its first on-field win since 2007, led 21-16 after three quarters. The Cavaliers’ only win during the previous two seasons was by forfeit last year.
Wilson 32, Lakeland 13: The Presidents, playing in their season opener, snapped a seven-game losing streak dating to last year and won in coach Curtis Williams’ debut.
Grassfield 37, Nansemond River 0: Tyler Clark threw two TD passes to Tony Patrick and ran for a score in the first half for the Grizzlies, who led 27-0 at halftime. Grassfield’s Ryan Woodcock kicked a 47-yard field goal.
Green Run 33, Cox 13: The Stallions scored two third-quarter touchdowns to pull away from a 13-6 halftime lead.
