Earl

Last night's storm was so bad that I had to pick-up two pines cones from my lawn today.

Keep in mind

All of you making sarcastic comments about the lack of a hurricane in this area-you better be really glad you didn't. My mom lives on the Outer Banks and she's gotten damage and it was only a category 2. What were you hoping for, a category 4 to crash ashore?

Keep in mind, the Virginian Pilot is not just for Hampton Roads residents-it's the Outer Banks residents' newspaper as well.

NAVY

The Navy has instructed non-essential personnel at all local installations to stay home today. WHF

A tempest in a teapot!

"WE BRACED. EARL STRUCK."

It appears someone designed the front page of the newspaper a day or two ago and was dead-set against changing it, reality be damned.

As for the Frisco pier, it looks like it would have come down if someone hooked a decent-size fish.

A tempest in a teapot!

Earl is giving us the perfect warning,

and hopefully some we some well needed rain.

Unbelievable

The media hype of Earl is no less criminal than shouting fire in a crowded theater.

My prediction, which is as accurate as any paid meteorologist, is that it will not even rain in the majority of Hampton Roads.

Darn

I was wrong, it's actually sprinkling outside my house today. Does this qualify me to be a TV meteorologist?

I wish there was better

I wish there was better advice for those of us on ESVA than just "take Route 13 north". North how far and to where? Maryland and Delaware have their own people to look after, never mind adding Virginia's evacuees. Of course, those of us with animals are stuck, because we cannot leave them, nor can we take them with us, unless we have some kin or friends who live "north". In Canada, maybe?

this storm is NOT coming to

this storm is NOT coming to Hampton Roads area, look at the reports people....its NOT a cat 4 anymore either, look at the reports people...we are going to get 20-30 mph winds maybe 50 mph gusts, big deal. We have thunderstorms that blow harder than that....see you on the beach Sat. morning .....

Earl and Gloria compared?

Do any of you hurricane followers know, or have heard how Earl compares to Gloria (1985)?

I remember that she was supposed to come right over top of Virginia Beach as a cat 4 but weakened to a 3 as she hit the OBX and veered off at the last minute, missing Virginia Beach. The final path looks very similar to Earl's current projected path. But that was a fast moving storm.

I'm curious...I can't find any comparisons on the internet.
