Chesapeake native makes 'SNL' debut

Posted to: Entertainment News Portsmouth Spotlight TV

Tune in tomorrow night when our very own Jared “Jay Pharoah” Farrow goes primetime on the “Saturday Night Live.”

The 22-year-old grew up as Farrow in the Greenbrier section of Chesapeake, honing his comedic skills in local comedy clubs and as a drama student at Indian River High School.

Pharoah is one of the youngest featured players ever hired for “SNL,” and he has gained a name for being an impressionist, nailing actors and comedians like Chris Tucker and Eddie Murphy.

The show runs 11:30 p.m. on Channel 10.

Oh, yea. Amy Poehler, an SNL alum, returns as host, and “California Gurl” Katy Perry is the musical guest.

Good job!

As an IRHS C/O 88 graduate this makes me proud! Hey anyone who pursues their dreams at such a young age should be commended! Good job Jay! Just for the record....Appreciate the haters, they'll only make you stronger and better. If you don't have haters, you haven't arrived!

By the way...that was a great impression of Mr. Frye!!!

Jay

Jay Pharoah should be commended! Many of us have seen him perform at the Virginia Beach Funny Bone, as well as other local shows. Besides being a *great* comedian, he is a great man. I am *so* proud of him!! I am pleased to know that he will taste sweet success.......deservingly so. Kudos to you, Jay!

JUST A STORY

All I can say is this was a story about a guy from our are as there are stories about people from our area everyday. I don't think the story was saying he's the next best thing.Hey I wish the young man success and hope he's has a great career. Hater-water I mean Tidewater be supportive.

"News" Without Substance

All the comments are off the mark. The real story is that The Pilot should give its readers substantive content that really makes a difference in their lives or for society in general. How many more articles about this guy are you going to run? The lowest common denominator in the news business just keeps getting lower.

This is what the fifth

This is what the fifth article on him in a couple of weeks, I wonder if he has family working at The Pilot. I don't recall Va Beach's Chyler Leigh getting this much attention when she got the role on Grey's Anatomy.

Break a leg Jay

We should be giving this 22 yr. old I.R. grad our full support.

The negative comments before he's even had his fifteen minutes are sad.

So one should overlook an

So one should overlook an "impressionist's" inability to do impressions because he's local? Sounds almost hypocritical.

So, if Seinfeld's act wasn't

So, if Seinfeld's act wasn't perfect when he was 22 everyone should have just written him off? Or Eddie Murphy or Redd Foxx? Or Jim Carey...or any and every other entertainer that's ever lived no matter what their art?

The kid has a chance at making it...I hope he does make it. I'm at least going to tune in to see what he's got to offer before I start bashing him.

Besides, even if he is horrible, he won't be the first lousy comedian on SNL.

"Oh, yea. Amy Poehler, an

"Oh, yea. Amy Poehler, an SNL alum, returns as host, and “California Gurl” Katy Perry is the musical guest."
That's the real story, many of his impressions aren't even close.

You're right, they aren't.

You're right, they aren't. Of the people that I know what they sound like if he or the subtitles didn't say who it was I wouldn't have known it was them.
