Jon Cash: 'I was fired for no just reason'

Posted to: News Portsmouth TV Weather

PORTSMOUTH

Former WAVY-TV weatherman Jon Cash announced on his website  that he plans to share more details about being fired from the station during a broadcast next month.

"The future statements detailing the events surrounding my brutal firing must be and will be told to the nation in a live broadcast in October," Cash said Tuesday. "Ultimately, the final outcome of the recent events in my life will be determined not by me, but rather by those who read this statement and join me for this family rally."

The date and time, he wrote, will soon be announced.

Cash wrote in the announcement, "We are watching fellow brothers and sisters get fired for their faith in our God, or for our founding principles." He says he was fired "for no just reason." He adds, "Freedom cost me my job."

Cash describes himself on the site as an international evangelist and speaker.

Last week, he wrote that he was fired Aug. 31. After viewers learned he was no longer on the air, several started Facebook pages in support of Cash, including one called "Bring Back Jon Cash'' page on Facebook on which more than 5,700 people indicated they like the page.

Doug Davis, WAVY’s general manager, confirmed last week that Cash was no longer working there, but declined to give details.

Just Wondering

Why none of his former colleagues have anything good to say about him.

Jon Cash

It seems that there are a lot of commentators here whose real desire is to 'hush' Jesus. It only stands to reason that if those who support Jesus can be stifled, then perhaps, Jesus can be stifled, too....BUT since Jesus is God and God will not be tamed, this will not happen. "The rocks and stones themselves will start to sing..."
So, Jonathan Cash will find another job and another way to bring a bit of Jesus, however professional or unprofessional others may view him, to the down, the hurting and even the starving.
I wonder how many of the comments here were written by anyone who bothered to look into the GOOD things this man has done for others, both in and out of our country? You know-in his 'spare' time? What good do you do for others in YOUR time away from work? I dare say, the answer to the first question is close to or perhaps, not even one. And the second answer?...If the rude comments are any indication, my guess would be...Just as void.
And for those who mention what Mr. Cash 'claims'...Do you know that this is bogus or are you basing your sarcasm on personal disbelief only? I'd bet the latter is the fact.
But, Oh, you are so very ready to kick a good man who's alrea

He always was a sensationalist...

I wasn't a fan of his weather segments either, but he came across as someone who liked attention. I often changed the channel when he came on, mainly because his voice is annoying and a vast majority of his forecasts were dead wrong. Maybe he was fired over a breach of contract. Maybe he was let go because of something he said that offended a co-worker. I'm a Christian, but no fan of Mr. Cash. His books were referred to as "amateur," and his site claims he performed 4 "miracle healings" on his trip to Nigeria. I'm suspicious that he mey be trying to profit from this by drawing some public sympathy to himself, in addition to the lawsuit. WAVY isn't without fault...they have their share of sensationalists and dramaticists when it comes to reporting what they call news, so he was a pea in a pod for sure. I wouldn't be surprized if this was a ratings stunt. For both parties.

it's just busines folks

mr. cash was fired. period. in this recession many of us have lost our jobs for no other reason than monetary gains on our former employers' parts. he's only human and susceptible just like the rest of us. it's already been mentioned that virginia is an "at will" state meaning employers can fire you for ANY reason that doesn't violate equal opportunity laws. so he could not have been fired for his personal religious views and though i was never a fan of his weather broadcast i don't recall him being very religious on air. he either broke his contract or his contract was up, so he was fired/let go. couldn't be any more plain than that.

however mr. cash's statements after the fact only serve himself, he is not a martyr. if this is indeed god's will then mr. cash should be looking forward to a wonderful life with his family, parishioners, and mission trips than acting like a child who can't understand why they were put in timeout. by turning this into a religious argument he only drags his faith into the muck and only separates us further.

the real character of man doesn't come from how well he lives life but how well he copes with it.

Jon Cash

I can hardly believe that they fired him! Well I will be switching channels! He was why I watched channel 10. Whatever station he goes to next, my family will follow! God Bless you Jon! God has something better for you!

Brutally fired??

I just went to Jon Cash's website and he stated "Yes, I was brutally fired for no just reason." Brutally fired? Really? Did they hit him, use profanity, what? That is a really compelling statement that I hope someone follows up to explain it. Is this why he is seeking legal counsel before coming forward with the reason behind being fired?

Hire and Fire at Will

Virginia is a "Hire and Fire at Will" state. No one needs a reason to terminate anyone. Don't like it? Talk to your legislators.

'I was fired for no just reason'

He'll make a million off this phony persecution angle. How about a Koran burning Jon?

lick your wounds and go away Jon

Take it "nation wide"? You're assuming people care. If the press didn't keep giving Jon Cash face time this would go away like it should. He is just a local weather guy. This is not that newsworthy. Cash is not being very Christian like in his antics. WAVY would not have fired him if they didn't feel certain about this decision. They wouldn't risk a lawsuit. Avoid the possibility of making this worse for yourself and put aside your childish behavior. Jon, lick your wounds and move on. Sell that McMansion and relocate where nobody knows you.

Suck It Up

Search the Code of Virginia for “wrongful termination”. You won’t find it. Some states do have such laws. If there is no EEO, ADA, etc. violation, the only reason an employer needs to get rid of someone is because they don’t want them around anymore. If you don’t like, it move or let your state lawmakers know you want it changed.
