NSU basketball team's schedule includes challenges

Posted to: Norfolk Sports

Norfolk State's men's basketball team will visit Rutgers on Nov. 23 and Virginia on Dec. 20 this season as part of its non-conference schedule.

The Spartans will play just two of their 11 non-conference games at home, hosting Jacksonville State on Nov. 16 and Iona on Nov. 30.

They will open the season at Long Island University, giving a roster spotted with New Yorkers a chance to return home for a night. Six Spartans hail from New York.

The Spartans will conclude their non-conference slate Jan. 2 when they visit Duquesne. Their last 17 games of the regular season will be against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference competition.

The Spartans have regularly involved themselves in early-season tournament play, but do not have any such tournaments this season.

"We have put together a very competitive schedule," coach Anthony Evans said. "We are excited about the level of competition we will face and look forward to the challenges of the season."

Norfolk State has also finalized its women's basketball schedule and opens at Division II St. Paul's College on Nov. 13.
