PORTSMOUTH

Police will be stopping vehicles tonight at a safety checkpoint.

The location of the checkpoint has not been released by police, who conduct the stops weekly to look for violations.

On Saturday, a checkpoint in the 1100 block of Frederick Blvd. netted one arrest on a domestic assault charge, police said. Officers wrote 64 tickets for a variety of offenses.

After reading this, I texted

After reading this, I texted a Portsmouth police officer that I know and asked him where the checkpoint would be. He declined to disclose the location in fear of loosing his job and offered me a ride home and told me not to drink and drive. I still can't stop laughing. Was at home just posing the question. Once a cop, always a cop. True to form! By the way, it was at Airline and P-town Boulevard Blvd, So there Captain keep your job!

Sheww!

Even though I live in Va Beach I'll sure sleep better tonight knowing the ppd is on the job baby! Until I wake up tommorow morning, turn on the news-hell- you know the rest. How many overnight shootings? Ect... ect. Glad you guys caught that expired inspection sticker though , maybe even a DUI(BIG BUCKS). You go boys. What would we do without you? Im starting to wonder what the hell do we need with you.

oh come on----

it's fine to stop folks in Arizona

but not in Virginia

ya'll can't have it both ways!

Too much free time

The police have too much free time on their hand. Just a month ago, the Suffolk had a stop point on College Drive. If they were doing nobody wouldn't have time to sexually abuse the horse, in Virginia Beach still air conditioners, in Portsmouth's case worry about illegal texas poker hall. The cops who perform for the Checkpoint Strike Force are actually volunteers from the department. In other words, the ladies and gentlemen performing these checkpoints are just doing this so the get "Brownie Points". "Look how my big fish I caught on my hook boss." Most people do things that only benefit them.

hmmm

Why don't they conduct checkpoints at old towne near all the bars?

PAPERS pleeeaase!

PAPERS pleeeaase! All kidding aside, if it was good enough for The Soviet Union and Cuba, why not the former United States? You can't wait for probable cause to inspect and investigate "citizens" on the street.

Unconstitutional!

Where is the reasonable suspicion necessary to stop people in a road block? This is not about public safety. It's simply a revenue generator.

Invasion of Privacy

You may call it what you want, but checkpoints are nothing more than an invasion of your privacy. With plate reading devices in police cars and radar, there is no reason to put a roadblock at the end of your street and search you as you leave your house or return home. I, for one, am not interested living in a police state. I thought that was what Russia was for?

So whats the point of this

So whats the point of this article if you're not going to disclose the location? Useless information. Checkpoints occur all the time , why even report this? Goofy reporting.

Checkpoints have been going

Checkpoints have been going on for years all across the country. Portsmouth is no different.
