SAVANNAH, Ga.

The American Red Cross in Savannah is sending four volunteers and two emergency response vehicles to North Carolina to assist in case Hurricane Earl causes trouble.

The volunteers will first head to Raleigh, N.C., then get instructions from there.

Earl has been expected to reach the North Carolina coast late Thursday and wheel to the northeast.

The Salvation Army also announced today that it is working with local emergency management officials in Hampton Roads, according to a news release. All its local units are working to ensure that equipment and supplies are ready if they are needed.
