Police identified the man who died in a fatal crash Sunday as James William Hendrix II, 52, of Suffolk.
Shortly before 4:30 a.m., Suffolk police were called to the 8400 block of S. Quay Road for a single-vehicle crash. Police said in a news release that a 2002 Ford Ranger was traveling east when the driver crossed the center median and struck a culvert. The vehicle went airborne and rolled several times, finally coming to a rest on its side and facing west in the median.
Hendrix was not wearing a seatbelt and had been partially ejected from the vehicle, police said. He died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
