Tech-defense company bringing 200 jobs to Suffolk

SUFFOLK

A South Carolina-based defense contractor is moving into the northern end of the city, bringing 200 jobs over the next two years.

ISHPI Information Technologies Inc. has leased 31,000 square feet of office, research and development space within Bridgeway Commerce Center on Harbour View Boulevard, the city announced Wednesday. The company will provide support to the Homeland Security and Defense departments, offering services in information and cyber dominance, engineering, integration and information technology.

The announcement comes on the heels of a potential closure of the U.S. Joint Forces Command, which has an operation in northern Suffolk.

"I've said all along we're going to be OK," Mayor Linda Johnson said.

ISHPI operates on the East Coast from Massachusetts to Florida and as far west as San Antonio, Texas, the news release said. The company lists another Virginia location, McLean, on its website.

"ISHPI's expansion to Hampton Roads will allow us to better serve our growing client base in the area and along the east coast, and it is right in line with our strategic goals," President and CEO Noah T. Leask said in a statement.

Real Estate Leases

If the Feds close the JFCOM center in Suffolk. There will be over 6,000 persons reassigned to other governmental facilities. Boeing is closing and 7 persons will be unemployed. ISHPI is moving to Suffolk and plan to hire 200 persons. Will ISHPI be hiring 200 persons or will this number be lower by having present employees move to Suffolk. Who is handling the leases of JFCOM, Boeing, and ISHPI? Whom?

6000 reassigned?

Still playing that number. With about 1/2 being military they are not being fired or layed off. Of the other half, some may transfer with the remnants of JFCOM, some won't. Boeing is not firing their employees, they are relocating them. I'd estimate that 5 to 10 ISHPI managers and employees will come in to the area to start the company

Jobs are good, but private

Jobs are good, but private companies that make desirable products that are sold worldwide are best.
