Photos: Attack sub Norfolk back home after six months

Highlights The Norfolk traveled roughly 34,000 nautical miles during its deployment, the Navy said. Port visits included Toulon, France; Fujairah, United Arab Emirates; Manama, Bahrain; and Sicily, Italy.

Fast-attack submarines like the Norfolk take on a range of missions, including supporting special forces and patrolling waters all over the world. Commissioned in 1983, the 360-foot Norfolk is the third naval ship to be named in honor of the city.
