Yorktown school receiving national Blue Ribbon award

RICHMOND

The U.S. Department of Education has named nine schools in Virginia as Blue Ribbon Schools.

The Virginia schools are among 304 nationwide to receive the award, which was announced Thursday.

The Blue Ribbon program recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools that are either high-performing or have raised student achievement to high levels, particularly for disadvantaged students.

Virginia's winners are Bellevue Elementary School in Richmond, Cleveland Elementary School in Cleveland, Eureka Elementary School in Keysville, Grafton Bethel Elementary School in Yorktown, Highland County 6-12 School in Monterey, Lincoln Elementary School in Purcellville, Patrick Springs Primary School in Patrick Springs, St. Ambrose Catholic School in Annandale and St. Theresa School in Ashburn.
