Bruce Phelps, coordinator of student activities for Beach schools, has earned a spot in the Virginia High School League Hall of Fame in Charlottesville.
He will be inducted on Monday as a nod to his long involvement in student activities during 37 years in public education. For the past 24 years, he has been actively involved in nuerous state and national associations for coaches and athletic administrators. He also has directed tournaments for statewide events including football, softball, tennis, volleyball, gymnastics, field hockey and swimming.
He has been with Virginia Beach schools for 18 years.
The Hall of Fame is sponsored by the Virginia High School League and the state's high school coaches' association. Inductees are recognized for contributions in athletics, school administration, coaching advising or officiating.

Carolinas team leads in Virginia Beach
The Virginias team is down 13-11 to the Carolinas team after the first day of competition at the 65th Captain's Putter Matches being conducted at Bayville Golf Club.
Among the golfers notching morning four-ball match wins was Norfolk's Seth Norman and his partner, Tad Tomblin of Man, W.Va.

Granby High graduate Victoria Johnson tallied two goals to lead Old Dominion to a 2-1 win over Northeastern.
Field hockey
No. 2 Maryland downs No. 19 Old Dominion
No. 19 Old Dominion fell to No. 2 Maryland 7-5 despite three goals from sophomore Maartje van Rijswijk.

No one person deserves this more than Bruce himself. A mastermind when dealing with students, athletes, and staff people. You have always been a friend and dear to me Bruce. Congrats on your achievement. If I knew this years ago, I could of had it presented in Nashville at the national AD conference..... :)
