Posted to: Halloween Life News Spotlight

Trick-or-treating will be observed Sunday in South Hampton Road cities. Only children 12 and under are allowed to participate in the door-to-door activity.

Here’s the schedule:

Chesapeake: 6 to 8 p.m.

Norfolk and Suffolk: until 8 p.m.

Portsmouth and Virginia Beach:
dusk to 8 p.m.

Here are some safety tips for kids to follow:

  • Travel in a group or with a trusted adult. Never let a child go alone.
  • Watch out for traffic. Use sidewalks when available.
  • Carry a glow stick or flashlight and use reflective tape on your costume.
  • Stay within your neighborhood, and only visit homes you know.
  • Stay away from neighborhood pets. The pet might not recognize you in costume.

Halloween

It makes me very annoyed that the cities choose to change the day of Halloween! If the excuse is because Monday is a school night, well guess what, so is Sunday. I think that the event should be hed on the real day of Halloween, not some made up day!!!

Calm down, this article is a

Calm down, this article is a year old. This needs to be removed as it can be confusing.

Come and gone

It's over...get over it.

get it right bible thumpers

the origins of halloween have nothing to do with the devil. it is a celebration of the dead. as in the people in the ground that put you here. if you want nothing to do with it, leave your porch light off. let the kids have fun. im 30 years old and the last time i checked, youre a kid only once. i would give anything to go door to door getting candy. mmm i love reeses. as to the pilot, why are you posting this article 30 minutes before most cities end trick or treating. and suffolk and vb, i think you need to change youre times. dusk to 8 doesnt leave much time. and to everyone that enjoys this holiday, "I VANT TO SUCK YOUR BLOOD"

I personally don't

I personally don't discrimate. Any kid, no matter what their age, that comes to my door gets some candy and a kind word. Kids in costumes get extra. It is practically the only time I speak to many of my neighbors. I enjoy it. As long as they are nice guests, I'm a nice host.

My two cents

For those of us who are Pagan, Halloween (Samhain) is a religious holiday. We celebrate the new year, which we believe begins November 1. Remember that as snide comments are made, some of us worship our dieties in different ways. Just because you don't understand and haven't even tried doesn't make us wrong. Similiar to many Christians who get upset about Christmas being commercialized, many Pagans feel the same way about a sabbat which is supposed to be about family, both those still with us and those who have passed on. And no, we don't worship the devil. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

You forgot to add..

Sailor Jane, you forgot to add that Christmas is actually a Pagan Holiday adapted for Christian purposes. Like most of the Christian Holidays, Pagan traditions were added to bring Pagans to the Church. Christmas trees, yule logs, gift giving all come from Yule which is the Winter Soltice. Egg coloring and many the spring traditions of Easter comes from Ostara which is the Spring Equinox and celebration of Spring. Ever wonder why the Church celebrates things that are not related to Jesus? Well now you know. Us Pagans are not that much different from Christians. We believe the same values but choose to follow a different path in achieving that. God or Goddess or Mother Earth or Allah are all the same. If we learn to respect each other beliefs and maybe learn we can all be on the divine path to salvation.

More to the root.

More to the root. Christianity is a rip off, part and parcel from pagan relegions. All of it comes from the worship of river gods around the nile region. Early Christians simply rebranded it.

Gimme a break

As a christian I am offened when so called christians ask the holiday to be moved when it falls on a sunday. This is about the children period. Gimme a break! Open the bible and find where this holiday being on a Sunday is wrong. Lets the kids be kids and relax on the hollier than thou attitude!
