Amerigroup director expands holdings

A director of Amerigroup Corp. expanded his holdings Tuesday in the Virginia Beach-based health insurer.

Jeffrey B. Child, a director since 2003, acquired 35,000 shares by exercising an option to buy them at $20.49 each. He subsequently sold 23,075 shares for $44.17 a piece, netting $546,416 on those shares. Child retained the remaining 11,925 shares, expanding his stake to 33,024 shares - worth about $1.4 million at Tuesday's closing price of $43.45 a share.

His transaction follows those of the past two weeks by several executives and another director executing stock options and immediately liquidating those freshly acquired shares.
