Governor, first family serve holiday meal at shelter

Posted to: News Virginia

RICHMOND

Virginia's first family is helping spread some holiday cheer.

Gov. Bob McDonnell and his family helped serve Christmas Eve lunch at The Healing Place in Richmond on Friday.

The nonprofit group provides shelter for the homeless and a long-term residential recovery program for people who are chemically dependent. Services are provided at no cost to the client.

Officials say the family helped dish out a meal of roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, a salad and dessert to about 40 people. The governor and his family then spent time talking with the residents.

McDonnell and his family also served Christmas Eve lunch at The Healing Place last year. The family previously served Christmas Eve lunch at The Healing Place when McDonnell was attorney general.
