NORFOLK

Police have charged a Salvation Army bell ringer in the theft of her red kettle Monday night at Walmart at 7530 Tidewater Drive.

Police charged the 30-year-old woman after looking at the store's surveillance footage, according to a news release. They believe a second person was involved.

Crystal Rose Hughley, 30, of the 700 block of Red Mill Road was charged with filing a false police report and embezzlement, police wrote in a news release.

The money from the kettle has not been recovered and police said they have not identified anyone else in the case.

Police said a kettle was taken from a different bell ringer at the same store on Nov. 26. One man distracted the bell ringer while another man grabbed the kettle.
