Va. officials prepare to count sheep, goats, cattle

Posted to: News Virginia

RICHMOND

A different kind of census will get under way next month in Virginia.

It's the U.S. Department of Agriculture's sheep, goat and cattle survey, conducted annually to size up inventory and production information for Virginia and the nation.

The survey questions will seek the number of breeding animals, calf and kid production, as well as mohair and wool production and prices.

The cattle inventory alone will involve contacts with about 1,000 operations.

The survey results will be published in late January.

Darn Right It's About Taxes

Why would a study like this need to be done anyhow? Because someone up there is getting ready to unleash a volly of taxes on the old farmer. They might not see it tomorrow but it's coming.

The charities listed below offer things such as, "Your gift of sheep will help a family in need start a small business in raising animals. The offspring are raised and sold for a profit, giving a family a source of income. Donate a sheep and change a life!"

Some charities which could be modeled after are WorldVision.org HarvestOfHope.org and Heifer.org

This would prevent long term government hand-outs and offer a way for American citizens to take personal pride in their work, start a small business, and offer them hope!

Merry Christmas Virginia!

Good idea!

After the counting is done maybe the government can start a program where homeless people can provide for themselves with owning either cattle, sheep or goats. I just got done reading the other Va Pilot article about the Governor and his family serving food to the homeless and I thought that was nice. What would be nicer still is if the Governor and his family taught livestock care so these homeless people could support themselves and wouldn't have to rely on the government and charity for extened, some times permanent, hand outs.

Taxes.

They never mention the number one reason they want to know!

How to Count Them

If the same people were doing this that made up that idiotic census form they sent me, I’m sure they are counting the number of legs and dividing by four. I hope they realize they need to change the method when they get to chickens.
