What TV show represents your Hampton Roads city?

Posted to: Community News Spotlight TV

First, a website assigned a movie to each state. We did our take on it, matching each south-side city with a famous film. Now a blogger has moved to the small screen, identifying each state with a TV show, past or present. For Virginia, the choice is "The Waltons." Of course, we couldn't resist trying to come up with a show whose name or characters made us think of home. Here are our choices. We'd love to hear yours in our poll.

Chesapeake: 'Green Acres'

Many of us could sing: "Chesapeake is the place to be. Suburban living is the life for me.... Green Acres we are there."

Hampton: 'Dancing With the Stars'

It's the celestial part of this title that reminds us of Hampton, home of NASA Langley and the Virginia Air & Space Center.

Jamestown: 'Bones'

This Fox show digs into the secrets of human remains, which brings to mind the archaeological digs in this 403-year-old city.

Newport News: 'The Big Bang Theory'

The brainiacs from this current CBS hit would feel right at home in the Jefferson Lab.

Norfolk: 'NCIS'

This one's a no-brainer: The fictional Naval Criminal Investigative Service team often mentions Norfolk.

Portsmouth: 'This Old House'

Many of Olde Towne's beauties would put some of the homes on this PBS show to shame.

Suffolk: 'Swamp Thing'

This early 1990s USA Network series brings to mind th e natural wonder that falls mostly in this growing city: the Great Dismal Swamp.

Virginia Beach: 'Baywatch'

David Hasselhoff and company would blend right in on the miles of resort beaches in our largest city.

Williamsburg: 'Antiques Roadshow'

Our form er capital is almost by definition an antique itself, with its Colonial-era homes, restaurants and shops.

Tell us your suggestions for a TV show that matches up with a Hampton Roads city in our poll.
