A South Norfolk teen pleaded guilty Tuesday to voluntary manslaughter for a street killing almost 15 months ago.

A Circuit Court judge set sentencing for Dominique L. Collins, now 19, for April 28. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Police arrested Collins soon after the shooting of Michael Callender Jr., 22, also of South Norfolk, on the night of Nov. 2, 2009. Rescue workers found Callender, mortally wounded, between two houses on Oliver Avenue in South Norfolk.

The manslaughter plea replaced murder and firearms charges under an agreement. Tests showed gunshot residue on the victim's hands, but none on the accused's, according to court documents.
