Jane Batten sends 9 paintings to Chrysler Museum

Posted to: Arts News Norfolk

NORFOLK

Jane Batten of Virginia Beach has promised to give nine significant American paintings to the Chrysler Museum of Art, including works by Winslow Homer, Thomas Hart Benton and Albert Bierstadt.

The paintings will go on view Jan. 26 at the Norfolk museum, the Chrysler announced today.

The works were collected by Batten and her late husband, Frank Batten Sr., founder of Landmark Communications. That company is now known as Landmark Media Enterprises LLC, and publishes The Virginian-Pilot.

"The Battens' pictures will significantly broaden and deepen the museum's presentation of our nation's art in important ways," said Chrysler Museum Director Bill Hennessey in a statement.

well,

I know where I will be Jan. 27. Very generous gift...many thanks!

I just can't feel good abouty this feel-good story

Great for Ms. Jane and The Chrysler. She is a billionaire and I live next door to her in a 300-sf dump. I have been underemployed for 20 months and live well below the poverty line. This "feel good" story does nothing to make me feel good.

I googled and unless you are

I googled and unless you are living in a garden shed, you don't live next door to this woman.

wrong

You might want to work on those research skills and find more reliable sources. Ms. Jane moved in next door to me in October in a house she had built for her time after Mr. Batten passed (it took 4 years to build, then sat completely unoccupied for 4 years until October). There are very many old and decrepit 'cottages' at the oceanfront as well as quite a mix of haves and have-nots. I have nothing against her personally, but in these times 'billionaire gives works of art to museum' is not a feel-good story.

no

Can you get me a job?

no

i dont know anyone that would want to work with someone as negative as you. sorry.

not the definition of altruism

If she had sold the art and donated the money to charity, that would meet the definition of altruism.

Great

Can wait to see them, some big names. Thanks Jane
