Sentencing for bogus land deals postponed in Chesapeake

The Circuit Court sentencing scheduled today for Linwood E. Turner Sr., who admitted to fraudulent land deals that took more than $100,000 from more than a dozen victims, has been postponed until Feb. 4.

Turner, 45, of Chesapeake must pay back $103,700 as part of a September plea agreement. But there was no agreement about sentencing on the more than two dozen charges of forgery, uttering and obtaining money by false pretenses.

Witnesses at an earlier hearing testified to depositing money with Turner for various properties in western Hampton Roads from March 2008 to February 2010, receiving nothing, and finding out the true owners didn’t know about any deals. One signature was dated weeks after the purported signer had died, testimony showed.
