The former head of the Navy’s Second Fleet will appear in Norfolk on Friday to sign copies of a new book he’s written with his father about their naval careers.

“Navigating the Seven Seas: Leadership Lessons of the First African-American Father and Son to Serve at the Top in the U.S. Navy” chronicles the careers of Melvin G. Williams Sr., who rose to a senior enlisted post, and his son, retired Vice Adm. Melvin J. Williams Jr. It was published this month by Naval Institute Press.

The book signing is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Norfolk Navy Exchange, 1560 Mall Drive. It is open to authorized patrons of the exchange.
