Carrier Truman wins Battle 'E' for third straight year

NORFOLK

The aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman has won the Battle Efficiency award for the third year in a row, Naval Air Forces Atlantic announced.

In 2010, the Truman deployed for seven months in support of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and conducted nearly 3,000 combat sorties. This year, it's taking part in testing of the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft and then will go into the shipyard for an extended maintenance period, so it won't be in the running for a fourth win.

The carrier also pulled off a three-peat from 2003 to 2005.

"In my opinion, there is no better crew in the fleet," said the ship's skipper, Capt. Joseph M. Clarkson, in a news release. "Their personal motivation and ability to maintain the high standard of excellence they set for themselves is inspiring."
