Norfolk Southern: Storm delays likely

NORFOLK

Norfolk Southern Corp. expects the winter storm sweeping the Midwest to significantly affect its operations.

On Tuesday, the Norfolk-based railroad announced that customers could expect delays of up to 48 hours on shipments moving through Kansas City and Missouri and the northern sections of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

"These areas are expecting significant snow accumulation, ice, and wind with blizzard conditions in some areas," Norfolk Southern said in a statement. Some shipments might be rerouted away from the storm's impact area, particularly those moving over its connections with western railroads. Norfolk Southern's 21,000-mile rail network sprawls across 22 eastern states.
