The School Board has agreed to pay $16,000 to a teenager injured June 16 in a school bus crash, according to court documents.

Aracelis Echevarria was on the bus when it flipped onto its side at Jarvis Road and Gruen Street in Chesapeake.

It was one day before the last day of school, and a dozen people were sent to the emergency room, officials reported at the time.

Echevarria suffered neck and back injuries as well as chipped teeth, accumulating $5,642.80 in medical expenses, according to court documents.

Her parents reached a resolution without suing. The board and the Echevarrias settled the case in February.

Two other Echevarria children who were on the bus also settled, but outside of court because their settlements were for much less money, their attorney, Charles Huffman, said.
