RICHMOND
The U.S. Supreme Court will consider Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's request for it to hear Virginia's lawsuit challenging the nation's health care law before an appellate court has a chance to review it.
The court put the matter on its calendar for April 15, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. There is no timetable for a decision.
The case is set to be heard May 10 in the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has asked the Supreme Court to take up the case because of the "crippling uncertainty" a delay imposes upon the states.
The Obama administration contends that a judge's ruling striking down the part of the law that requires citizens to buy health insurance should first be heard on the appellate level in Richmond.

blah blah blah
I have never purchased health insurance and never intend to. I have paid out of pocket for all medical cost that I have incurred during 46 years. I save and invest the bulk of my disposable income, I do not own a new car, I do not have a flat screen t.v., I do not have a McMansion, I do however have rather extensive holdings in stocks and mutual funds. In essence I have insured myself, why should I send money to some insurance company year after year and let them build wealth when I can build that wealth for myself. I started investing some money from every paycheck when I was nineteen years old. I should not have to pay for other people who chose to make lousy decisions. I should not have to pay for other people welsh on their bills.
Unfortunately, You do
If you are self-insured and have used any hospital care, then you ARE paying for those who are not willing or able to buy insurance, in the form of higher bills. I haven't figured out how it can be OK to put down those who won't pay for their own health care via insurance, and at the same time say it is wrong to make people buy insurance. Seems to me to be a case os self-protection to lessen the amount I have to pay for the uninsured.
Take a step back
Forget what party you support and ask yourself what possible motive anyone could have to delay a decision on this. Everyone knows this is going to the Supreme Court.
Health Care
Obama care us unconstitutional. Spin it the way you want too. It is not the same as car insurance (Chris33). You don't have to drive and you don't have to buy it. Also, you are not put in jail for not buying the car insurance. Car insurance is regulated by the state and not the Federal government. Stop comparing Car insurance to Obama car. If I don't buy Health care, I can go to jail. We are no longer a free nation if that law remains.
Facts vs. constitutionality
1) There is no threat of jail for not buying health insurance in that law. That was a myth that was started long ago and immediately debunked.
2) The constitutionality of the law will be decided by courts. As many judges have deemed it to be constitutional as have deemed it not to be. If you personally have deemed the law to be unconstitutional, perhaps you should share with us the credentials that qualify you to make that judgment.
In my view, when an uninsured person shows up at a hospital and gets treatment and then doesn't pay for it, causing me to pay for his health care through higher premiums and more expensive services and products, then that is itself reason enough to justify the requirement.
hospitals turning away??????
A hospital that turns away people who don't have insurance and can't pay is inhumaine in the United States.
Reading some of the comments just shows me how selfish some of you can really be. It's all about ME and to heck with anyone else goes against everything our country is founded on. Some of you really need to be ashamed of yourself. Let hope and pray no one in YOUR family falls into the situation where theu too become in need of health care, and can't afford it. You think it can't happe to you, but it happens in our society every day where the working poor and middle class suddenly lose everything because of a crisis. Shame on all of you!
health care
here is the bottom line. Good hard working people who earn their way in life by hard work and doing the right thing are fed up with the bleeding heart liberals who want to give this country away as they have been trying too for decades. my wife and I wrok very hard to ensure we have health care and insurance. Bottom line is Obama is continuing to do exactly what the libs. want and that is to give it away to those sorry individuals who wouldn't work in a pie factory. they had rather make living off our tax dollars a way of life using and draining social security and medicaid which was not set up to handle these type of people who make it a way of life.
CALL IT WHAT IT IS
Progressives do not want people to have insurance, they want people to have free healthcare. People currently without health insurance are treated for free at the ER or hospital and everyone else picks up the cost. Under the new plan people with Magic Progressive Universal Health Insurance go to the Dr., ER, or hospital and .... everyone else picks up the cost. The only difference is accountability. Currently it is viewed as the patient is responsible, and everyone else pays. Under the new plan the view of accountability is shifted to the collective.
Until hospitals are allowed to turn away those that cant pay
Until hospitals and other medical facilities are allowed to turn away those that cant pay, mandatory health insurance is needed. People using the ER as their primary care doctors is one reason ER trips are so expensive. Those who have insurance have to pay for those that dont. You cant have universal coverage and lower cost without universal coverage. As to rushing to the court why is it ok for kenny to use legal trick to advance his agenda but not ok for Obam to do the same. Why is ok sometime to skirt the constitution and not ok at others.
I agree. Hospitals should
I agree. Hospitals should be able to turn away those who don't have insurance and can't pay.
