ROANOKE

Christina Nuckols, a Richmond-based editorial writer for The Virginian-Pilot, will become the editor of The Roanoke Times editorial page on May 31.

Nuckols, 44, brings a familiarity and fondness of Western Virginia to the job. She worked as a Roanoke Times reporter from 1996 to 2000, first covering Roanoke County government before moving to Richmond to cover politics.

“I am delighted to bring Christina to Roanoke in this important role," said Debbie Meade, president and publisher of The Roanoke Times. "She has a deep understanding of our community and Southwest Virginia, as well as the Commonwealth at large, and is recognized as a voice of integrity in the editorial field.”

Nuckols worked as a Richmond reporter for the Norfolk-based Pilot for seven years before joining the editorial board in 2007. Both the Pilot and The Roanoke Times are owned by Landmark Media Enterprises.

Nuckols, a native of the Page County town of Shenandoah, reported earlier in her career at the News & Advance in Lynchburg and the Daily News leader in Staunton. She earned a bachelor's degree from Randolph-Macon College and a master's degree from Ohio University.
