The University of Virginia is raising tuition and mandatory fees to offset cuts in state funding and increasing costs.

The Daily Progress reports that the university's Board of Visitors voted Thursday to raise undergraduate tuition and fees by 8.9 percent in the upcoming school year. In-state undergraduate students will pay an additional $948. Out-of-state students' tuition and fees will increase by $2,996.

Board members also approved graduate tuition and fee increases ranging from 3.8 percent to 9.1 percent.

Chief Operating Officer Leonard Sandridge says U.Va. had to reduce its operating budget by another $15 million because of state cuts.

University officials say students also will have to pay more for housing and meal plans.

financial responsibility

There you have it the elitists at "Jefferson's House" won't clean-up the books, reduce salaries or cut employees. There answer along with government's answer to everything is raise cost and taxes putting the burden on the people, in this case, the students and their parents.

Has anyone noticed that gas prices are going through the roof and food costs are sky rocketing.
I believe I’m qualified to make this argument. My oldest graduates from a 4 year college next month and I have one who’s a sophomore. We did't qualify for any scholarships (I'm sure you can guess why).

I have seen the fraud waste and abuse atboth colleges and it really makes me mad. I would prefer a different term, but I have to be PC.
