Welcome To Our World
The first five comments on here have me disgusted. Maybe you ought to get out of your middle class cul-de-sacs and learn how the poor live. (More accurately, how they survive.)
I grew up in an upper middle class household. I never imagined that myself or any member of my family would need public assistance.
Now in a low-income neighborhood, I know how my neighbors live. Importantly here, I know how poorly some of their children eat. Poor nutrition will stunt their growth, hurt their academic performance, etc. (Wonder why poverty among some is a never-ending cycle?)
Don't attack the children for their parents poor lot in life. Do what's possible so they'll live better as adults, and their children won't need such.
Food is being provided through the SNAP program.
"The first five comments on here have me disgusted."
Food is being provided through the SNAP program. There is NO need to duplicate food assistance because of lazy parents regardless of their circumstances. Simply prepare the food given through taxpayer assistance for the children.
Free to who?
Our tax dollars are paying for free meals to ALL children. Doesn't this bother anybody besides a few of us taxpayers? Obamacare at work.
Trumancare
This program was initiated in 1946 (15 years before Obama was born) as part of the National School Lunch Act. Harry S Truman signed it into law.
Fix your kids breakfast and lunch with your SNAP money!
Your facts are skewed and do not historically represent the history of the program. Lobster, shrimp, and other luxury foods have and continue to be part of the program. Programs are fluid. There is nothing wrong with requiring lazy stay at home welfare recipients making their children breakfast and lunch. What do these kids do at other school breaks? How about weekends? None of them, nor are their parents starving.
does p-town give every dhild
Free food? Really? No wonder they needed to raise the personal property tax rate .3 cents to garner another 2.1 million $$'s from the citizens. While I don't want to see anyone go hungry, it's not the responsability of the citizens to feed everyone else's kids. Pathetic, really pathetic. I wish I could figure out a way to not pay my taxes in P-town cause I just don't agree w/this. I'd say I'd move, but houses in P-town are so over valued that noone is buying here, plus I already told you about the taxes, & everyone knows we have the highest personal property taxes in the region. Noone looking to relocate here, again, PATHETIC!!
Wasteful, excessive-Duplication of an existing program.
This program, (breakfast and lunch) is wasteful, excessive and completely unnecessary. Why? Food is already paid for through the SNAP (formally food stamps) program.) Eat at home or pack a lunch.
Why are the parents so lazy they can not fix their children breakfast or lunch with food provided by the taxpayer?
