BLACKSBURG

Virginia Tech football recruiting remains hot with the commitment of quarterback Brenden Motley from Christiansburg High on Wednesday. He's the Hokies' 13th pledge from the Class of 2012.

Motley, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound dual-threat quarterback, picked Tech over scholarship offers from Virginia and Georgia Tech. Listed as a three-star "athlete" by Rivals.com, Motley was heavily pursued by the Yellow Jackets to run their option offense - but he chose the Hokies shortly after a recruiting visit to Atlanta.

He passed for 1,142 yards, rushed for 564 yards and accounted for 17 total touchdowns as a junior and is rated the No. 12 player in the state by HokieHaven.com, Virginia Tech's team site on the Rivals network.

VirginiaPreps.com rates him the state's No. 17 prospect.

While athletic enough to play other positions - receiver or safety, perhaps - Motley is for now the Hokies' second quarterback commitment in this class, joining Texas standout T.J. Milweard, who is rated the No. 23 pro-style QB in the country by Rivals.

Motley is also Tech's sixth in-state pledge, all six of whom are rated among the top 20 prospects in Virginia by HokieHaven.

Before this latest commitment, ESPN.com rated Tech's 2012 recruiting class the 17th-best in the country.
