Kellam students once again strut into Hurley's fashion finals

Posted to: Life Spotlight Virginia Beach

For the second consecutive year, Kellam High School fashion marketing students are heading to the grand finals of the Hurley Walk the Walk Contest.

The clothing company holds the annual fashion design competition in Huntington Beach, Calif., during the U.S. Open of Surfing. Competitors vie for a chance to win $25,000. Kellam is one of two schools to win a spot in the finals for two consecutive years, instructor Cindy A. Miller said.

Last year, the Kellam team took home $5,000 after claiming three prizes: best men's and women's head-to-toe outfits and the Skullcandy (headphones) redesign award. The students again are participating in a redesign contest for Skullcandy. You can vote for Kellam's design on Skullcandy's Facebook page.

This year's Walk the Walk faceoff is Aug. 4, and the show will be streamed live at 7 p.m. on www.usopenofsurfing.com.

Kellam has a website devoted to its participation: http://khswtw.webs.com. You also can learn more at www.hurley.com and can follow the blog at http://hurleywtw.livejournal.com.
