Man waives hearing in Portsmouth carjacking case

PORTSMOUTH

A 53-year-old man accused in the June 27 carjacking of an elderly woman in a Walmart parking lot waived a preliminary hearing Friday.

Rodney Lee Scott faces charges of carjacking, grand larceny and attempt to elude police.

In the incident, the 81-year-old woman refused to get out of her car outside the store on Frederick Boulevard and was pulled out and thrown to the ground, police reported.

She suffered injuries to her head and arm, according to the initial police news release.

The case was certified to the grand jury, which meets Aug. 4.
