Michael J. Muhammad has dropped a lawsuit he filed against Virginian-Pilot Media Companies alleging that a May 1, 2010, story was defamatory and libelous.
Portsmouth Circuit Judge Dean W. Sword signed an order dismissing the suit without prejudice, meaning the plaintiff could file the suit again.
The lawsuit, filed in Portsmouth Circuit Court, alleged that a story about Muhammad's work as a political consultant made false statements.
Muhammad, represented by Norfolk attorney Bruce C. Sams, had sought $10 million.
