PORTSMOUTH
The city has received clearance from the U.S. Justice Department to move local elections to November.
The City Council sought the move to increase participation and to eliminate the cost of multiple elections. The change required a city charter amendment, which the General Assembly approved this year.
The next regular council and school board election will move from May to November 2012. The terms for incumbents will extend six months as a result.
A special council election will be held this November for the seat Elizabeth Psimas vacated to run for mayor. The council appointed Curtis E. Edmonds Sr. in the interim.

Lets Hope
Being a good mayor is not just grinning and socializing in the hood. Ever since our new mayor made the statement 'raise the taxes and lets move on' in a work session I find him not suited to his office. The shame is that there is a segment of the population who will vote for him no matter how bad he is at mayor. POrtsmouth needs some good canidates for the next elections and not any that have served in any prior capacity in the city.
6 more months
This means 6 more months of Mayor Wrong!
