Fireworks displays set for Virginia Beach and Suffolk were among those canceled Monday night because of storms that rolled through Hampton Roads, but the show went on at Town Point Park in Norfolk.
The display at the Oceanfront will not be rescheduled, said Tiffany Twine, a spokeswoman for the Virginia Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau. Fireworks at Mount Trashmore were canceled, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department, but further information was not available.
Suffolk officials said they will reschedule the fireworks display at Constant’s Wharf.
The fireworks show at Fort Monroe also was canceled, and information about a new date might be available today, the provost marshal’s office said.
Fireworks organizers in Norfolk, already having rescheduled the Harborfest display to combine with the Independence Day show, moved the event up an hour to 8:30 p.m. Monday.
It rained during the show, said Heather Bilodeau, communications director for Norfolk Festevents, but many people stuck around, and drivers pulled off to the side of the road to check out the display.
"Especially with the weather, it’s been an overwhelming success," Bilodeau said.

Shame on FestEvents
I was not aware of the change in the FestEvents fireworks until I was eating dinner out with friends on Granby Street. What a disappointment to have missed the fireworks, especially after the Harborfest fireworks were not rescheduled for June 12th, the day after they were originally scheduled. I think FestEvents could have done a much better job of communicating their last-minute decision to move the show to 8:30. I won't plan anything else with friends around FestEvents' schedule going forward. - Signed, One Ticked Off Norfolk Resident (Oh, yeah. I'm mad.)
what will happen to the fireworks at the beach
since the beach is not going to reschduled the fireworks event, (my kids were looking forward to the event) what will happen to the fireworks? or do we have to go to Busch Gardens to see them, ROAD TRIP!!!!!
Mother Nature
Mother Nature did a great job of providing the fireworks last night and she did an awesome job of it. With the shocking (no pun intended) reach of lightning, anyone who went out last night to see fireworks was really taking their lives into their own hands. Thank God no one was struck. All the fireworks in the world aren't worth getting hurt or losing a life over.
Wrong date
In essence, July 4th 1776 is the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Our true independence came on November 30th 1782 with the preliminary Treaty of Paris that declared American Independence and coincided with the withdrawal of the British from America.
Thank you ...
... for that vital information.
Next, please alert us to the exact, correct date for the birth of Jesus, so's we don't continue to stupidly observe that on Dec. 25.
We dunderheads *really* appreciate your assistance.

Just thought some true history might be enlightening, but alas, in your case I was wrong.
Horible Decision
Shame on Karen Scherberger and Festivents on making such a reckless decision of having fireworks show go on during all that lightning. Obviously. money was more important than the safety of people. They better consider themselves fortunate that no one was hit by lightning. Had that been the case, they would've have regretted the decision till the day they died, not to mention the lawsuits.
I for one will NEVER attend a Festevent sponsored event again. Furthermore, I would like to see Scherberger fired!
And what is your
And what is your relationship to festevents and Karen Scherburger, whoever she is?
