U.S. Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., joined a bipartisan group Tuesday that introduced a bill to create 2 minutes of silence on Veterans Day, his office said.
If passed, the measure would re-create a tradition started after World War I, in which citizens were asked to pay respect on the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
The legislation would direct the president to issue a proclamation each year for people to stop their routines and be silent for 2 minutes at 2:11 p.m. EST on Nov. 11, Veterans Day.
The measure was introduced in both houses of Congress Tuesday by groups of Democratic and Republican supporters.

Webb chose poorly
Senator Webb walked up to the plate, kicked the clay off shoes then shuffled them into place while keeping a keen eye on the batter. From the corner of his eye he watched the catcher tap the inside of his leg with a single finger pointed. The pitcher nodded and dropped his head. In a whirlwind of inhuman twisting, the pitcher reached behind himself then moved the ball into the two middle fingers while his arm and body was moving toward the batter.
Senator Webb saw the stitching of the ball and the air curving around it. He blinked once and swung - and a STRIKE.
Senator Webb should have called for loud shouts of "THANK YOU" instead of silence. We should replace the solemn momment with a loud voice of GRATITUDE!!!
"We should replace..."
What's stopping you? Go ahead.
what a waste
The line should read "keen eye on the pitcher".
An even better idea
would be to make Veterans Day a day that only active duty, honorably discharged and retired vets have off. All others go to work.
feel good fluff
Okay, I get it. This might be a good idea but to me it's just another worthless senator wasting time and resources on feel good but accomplish nothing legislation.
