Death penalty sought in 2010 Berkley slayings

NORFOLK

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for a man accused of slaying two women in Berkley last year.

Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney Gregory Underwood on Thursday filed a notice with the court to seek the death penalty for Charles Evans Jr., accused of a double homicide in the 400 block of W. Indian River Road.

Evans, 50, is charged with two counts of murder and weapons charges in the Dec. 30 incident. Tierra Young, 27, and Rhonda King, 24, were found dead in the street, court records state. A trial is scheduled for April.
