CHESAPEAKE
The black poodle found in Western Branch on July 1 with a band wound tightly around her muzzle and wounds to her neck, lips and throat, is healing well after surgery July 22 to repair the tissue damage done to her face.
It is believed the rubber band around her snout was to keep her quiet.
Clementine remains under the care of veterinarian Ruth Ann MacQueen at Midway Veterinary Hospital. She stays at the Indian River hospital during the day and spends the night in a foster home.
MacQueen said Clementine will have her stitches removed this week.
"She's healing the way she is supposed to," MacQueen said. "She's going back to see the surgeon this week."
MacQueen said additional surgery might be necessary, as the dog still has a slightly raised lip on her left side.
Clementine will likely go home later this month. She has already been adopted by the woman who found her.
MacQueen said she remains skittish around some visitors but noted, "She's fine once she gets to know who you are."

I wish the courts would give
I wish the courts would give anyone that abuses an animal life in prison. It is a proven fact that if a person abuses an animal they will not hesitate to abuse people. Depending on some cases I would even vote to give them the chair.

Embarrassed that I spelled embarrassed wrong!!!
Embassed
that I live in Western Branch where this little pup was found. I know no one that would do such a horrific thing to an animal. I really hope the PD has someone in mind for this crime and that he/she is/are fully prosecuted...ie spends time in jail!!!
INJURED PUPPY
Its great to hear that she is healing well. Midway has a terrific doctor and staff. I hope that the person who did this will be caught and fully prosecuted.
Coward!
Try that conduct in Suffolk and see what happens! There, dedicated animal control officers, aggressive prosecutors, and no-nonsense judges lower the boom on those sick, yellow creeps. I hope animal cruelty evokes the same response in Chesapeake.
Not so fast.
Our Animal Control yes, has it together. The problem in suffolk are the judges NOT throwing down the hammer. Look at the horse lady for example.....has she ever really sat in jail for her continued animal abuse/neglect? She goes to court and if fined! Thats really teaching her now isn't it? NOT
Thanks
Thanks you Ruth Ann, for your expert help in saving this little dogs life. Through you, she will learn to trust humans again.
