Map: Mandatory-evacuation areas in Norfolk

Posted to: Hurricanes - Storms Irene News Norfolk Weather

Norfolk issued a mandatory evacuation for all residents living in Category 1 (red) storm surge areas. Those who live within Category 2 (orange) storm surge areas are strongly advised to leave as well. Residents must evacuate by 8 a.m. Saturday.

Category 1 surge areas also can be viewed in this document (PDF). Surge areas for all-category storms (1-4) can be viewed here.

Search on your address (include "Norfolk") to learn whether you are in a mandatory evacuation area.

Please be patient; the storm surge maps are large and may take a minute to load.

Where's the map??? And when I type in an address I get nothing.

Hampton Roads?

Here's what's wrong with Hampton Roads...how about one map that shows all of the cities with the information we need?

All of Hampton Roads

Hi -- We'd love to publish such a map, but the storm surge files are so large because of the level of detail that a region-wide map would never load on your computer. We are trying to keep the surge maps as detailed as possible so you can zoom in to your specific property or street. To do that, we need to break them up city by city.

We now have Portsmouth's storm surge map online for those affected by the voluntary evacuation there: http://hamptonroads.com/2011/08/map-portsmouth-hurricane-storm-surge-areas

Please keep checking back for more information!

colonial place

any one in colonial place leaving?

I'm very close to Colonial Place

& we are leaving in a few hours. During Isabel the water reached the doorsteps in our neighborhood, not trying to ride out this one. Thankfully we have a place in Williamsburg to go to. My power was out for a week last time & that was the worst part. Hopefully we won't lose power up there. Remember to move your car to higher ground away from trees. Good luck to you whatever you choose to do.

yea im staying but im

yea im staying but im leaving my car here at work in the garage my house is on high ground in colonial place one of the few house so hopefully i can ride this out

Get out into the rain tomorrow morning?

8 AM Saturday will be too late, as that saturating rain will be falling during Friday night. Bad call Norfolk and her City Manager. "You have to be gone by 8 AM. Wait, what do you mean it's already flooding and we're telling you to get out in it? Oops! My bad!"

Also, this map is a little

Also, this map is a little misleading. The areas in solid dark red are Category 1 zones. The areas that are red shaded but not solid dark red, are Category 2 zones. Solid reds are mandatory evacuation, red shaded are "you may want to get out of this zone because we may not be able to get to you for a while if you need help".
