ODU basketball player Bazemore to have foot surgery

Old Dominion basketball player Kent Bazemore will have surgery today to repair a fracture to his left foot.

Bazemore, the Monarchs' top returning player, said he hopes to be back by the start of the season in November.

"They said maybe five to six weeks for the healing, but the rehab is going to take longer," Bazemore said.

A pin will be inserted to repair a fracture to his fifth metatarsal. "It's a clean break," Bazemore said. "But it's in a pivotal spot."

Bazemore said the foot had been bothering him for about a month. He felt a "pop" Saturday while playing in the Hampton Roads 7 Cities Pro-Am.

Bazemore averaged 12.3 points for ODU last season. He was the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year and a second-team All-CAA pick.

"In regard to our program and our student athletes, it will be business as usual and we will blend Kent back into our setting at the appropriate time," coach Blaine Taylor said.
