Today voters will decide which Democrat, incumbent Del. Algie T. Howell Jr. or retired Norfolk police officer Rick James, will represent District 90 in the state House of Delegates.
The Republican Party of Virginia will not run a candidate in the November election, so the primary winner will represent southeast Norfolk and a small part of Virginia Beach in the House.
In an email question and answer with The Virginian-Pilot, Howell, 73, said jobs and staffing standards for nursing homes and hospitals are his top two priorities for the district. He cited the Kroc Center, which he helped secure land for, as a source for more than 200 new jobs.
James, 47, focused on education and public safety. The adjunct instructor at Tidewater Community College said he will look into creating a “research triangle” linking state colleges and universities with NASA. He also wants to propose legislation that will ensure victims of crimes receive legal support and restitution.
Polls open at 6 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.
