NORFOLK

Tides right-hander Rick VandenHurk limited Durham to one run and two hits over six innings Saturday night and Norfolk defeated the Bulls 3-2 at Harbor Park.

VandenHurk improved to 8-13 on the year and lowered his ERA to 4.58.

Durham took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Matt Carson hit a solo home run to left field.

The Tides came right back in the bottom of the second to go ahead 2-1.

Jake Fox started the rally by hitting a single to center field off Durham starter Andy Sonnanstine (3-4).

Brandon Snyder followed with a single to left, with Fox stopping at second.

Robbie Widlansky then singled to right on a ball that was deflected by Durham first baseman Leslie Anderson. Widlansky's hit scored Fox, with Snyder advancing to third.

Then Tyler Henson singled to second base on a ball deflected by Sonnanstine. Snyder scored on the play and Widlansky reached second base.

But that ended the Norfolk rally as Brendan Harris flied out to center field, John Hester took a called third strike and Matt Angle struck out swinging.

Norfolk took a 3-1 lead in the seventh. Henson walked and stole second and Harris drove Henson in with a single to center.
