Bowyer's time at Richard Childress Racing could be nearing an end
Car owner Richard Childress spoke Thursday on Sirius Satellite Radio about the chances Clint Bowyer will remain with the team after this season. Childress didn't sound hopeful of keeping Bowyer, whose contract ends after this year. A key issue is finding sponsorship for Bowyer and that's not been easy in this economic time.
Said Childress on “Tradin’ Paint’’: “We’ve tried and we’ve worked really hard to put the deal together to keep Clint. It’s not 100 percent off the table but it’s getting tougher and tougher as the day goes by. Clint’s got a couple of really good opportunities facing him. For us, it just didn’t seem that we could get everything worked out. I hope, if we can’t put him in a car next year, that he gets into a ride that he’s really good and happy with.’’
Asked if that’s his interpretation of things with Childress, Bowyer said: “That’s fair. Just working on everything. That’s the biggest thing, trying to get everything done as far as the future. There’s opportunities and stuff we’re trying to weight out.’’
Richard Petty Motorsports has made an offer to Bowyer.
