DataPilot | Hampton Roads teacher-student demographics

A growing body of evidence suggests students do better in school when they learn from someone of the same race, yet teacher demographics in South Hampton Roads do not come close to mirroring student populations. According to 2010-2011 enrollment and employment numbers, black men and Hispanics in particular are underrepresented at the head of the classroom. (Related story)

This makes it look like the school systems are not hiring enough black males - in reality black males that are attending college are not choosing to go into education as a major; most are choosing other degrees. If the candidates are not there, you can't hire them.
