Kansas City Barbecue Society que 4 U!
If my dance card wasn’t already brimming with oysters this weekend, I’d opt for ‘que.
Get a taste of the really, really good stuff at Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour, which stops at the Chesapeake Sam’s Club tomorrow.
The public can sample the region’s best barbecue as professionals compete for a portion of the $400,000 grand prize – the largest prize in the history of competitive barbecue.
The event is in partnership with the Kansas City Barbecue Society, so you know it's going to be good.
Pro-BBQ teams (such as.. Hambones by the Fire, Jacked Up BBQ, Lyin Pigs and Sir Porkalot) will be on location to compete in the Sam’s Club BBQ Tour. Plus, BBQ expert Troy Black will be providing cooking demos and samples for the public throughout the day on Saturday.
If you’ve never tasted competition ‘que, you’re in for a treat.
Nelson Colwell, (that's him in the picture on a practice run) a competitive pitmaster from Chesapeake who is climbing up in national rankings, once told me that competitors only get one bite to impress the judges. That means that a bite of competition barbecue is an explosion of flavors.
My first bite left me speechless.
Anyway, if you want to go, here are the details.
WHEN: Saturday, September 17, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
WHERE: Sam’s Club, 2444 Chesapeake Square Ring Rd., Chesapeake
