Kitchen fire prompts evacuations at Norfolk nursing home

Posted to: Norfolk Norfolk News

Residents in one section of a Norfolk nursing home were evacuated while firefighters extinguished a kitchen fire Wednesday evening.

The only significant damage occurred in the kitchen of one unit, and residents were able to return to the nursing home, located at 701 Easy St. near Tidewater Drive, Norfolk Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Harry Worley said.

The fire, which produced heavy smoke in parts of the two-story building, was brought under control shortly before 8 p.m., he said. One resident had breathing difficulties unrelated to the fire, he said.
