Norfolk murder case sent to grand jury

NORFOLK

The case against Rashan E. Burke, accused in the July 9 shooting death of a Norfolk man, was certified to the Sept. 21 grand jury after a preliminary hearing Monday.

Burke, 34, of Norfolk was arrested after police went to a house in the 6300 block of Palem Road in the Sewells Gardens area to investigate reports of gunfire.

The victim, Andre Javan Elliot, 35, was found in the home with gunshot wounds.

He was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Burke is charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm.
