Norfolk re-opens East Ocean View beach to swimming

NORFOLK

Norfolk re-opened the city's Cape View Beach in East Ocean View to swimming Wednesday after re-testing the beach's water quality.

Norfolk's Department of Public Health closed the beach earlier this week after finding elevated levels of certain bacteria in the water. The results of tests on Wednesday indicated acceptable levels of the bacteria, it said.

"People swimming or playing in waters with bacteria levels higher than the state standards have an increased risk of developing gastrointestinal illness," the health department cautioned.
