Unacceptable levels of a bacteria that indicates the scope of fecal contamination in recreational water has forced Cape View Beach, beach site #7, to close, according to a Norfolk public health department press release issued today.
Enterococci bacteria - the bacteria causing the closure - doesn't make people sick but its presence "is closely correlated to the presence of other disease-causing organisms," the release said. Levels of the bacteria, according to the release, show it has exceeded State Water Quality Standards, putting people in those waters at a higher risk for gastrointestinal illness.
The waters, which are tested weekly, will reopen after the bacteria level meets the state standards, the release said.

The plume has arrived.
just nasty
and I did not even know there was a cape view beach
Beach closed to swimmers
How many times must this happen before new regulations are put in force and are inforced to stop these ships off the coast from dumping there waste at sea. What is the use to have programs to clean the Chesapeake bay if we can't go to the source to stop waste from washing up on our shores.
I think you're right.
Only people poop. Couldn't have any thing to to with rain washing tons of run off, sediment, fertilizer, or flood rlated sewage down the bay.
Where did you read that?
Nowhere in that story does it say that this closure is attributed to ships dumping sewage. Also, your "dumping there..." should be "their."
