NORFOLK

U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott is hosting a town hall meeting Monday in Norfolk to talk with constituents about the federal budget deficit and job creation.

The Newport News Democrat said he's bringing Michael Cassidy, head of the Richmond-based Commonwealth Institute for Fiscal Analysis. The meeting is at 7 p.m. in City Council chambers in City Hall, 810 Union St.

"The budget agreement enacted last month cut the deficit by $1 trillion through spending caps but mandated an additional $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction through a Joint Select Committee," Scott said in a statement. "We do not yet know what programs will be cut or if new revenue will be raised.

"The town hall meeting will give me an opportunity to discuss the budget deficit and job creation proposals with my constituents and to hear their concerns."

Scott, who has been in Congress since 1993, represents Virginia's 3rd Congressional District, which includes parts of Norfolk and Portsmouth and stretches up to Richmond.

The problem

The problem with drawing up a specific district like this is that it ensures that the candidate with the D or R behind their name will always win an election regardless of their abilities or qualifications.

Politicians in these districts do not have to listen to their constituents. No matter what they do if their party wants to keep them around they will be reelected every time. So they will vote the party over the people almost every time.

So really the parties draw up these districts and in the end the people lose.

And no this is not a direct attack on Congressman Scott or this specific district. Both sides do it and both sides are wrong.

Bobby Scott

He despises anyone with a job and an opinion. His carefully-carved district is made up of a tax recipient majority. We that pay in and vote against him are the enemy.

Well now. That was an orwellian deletion i must say.

My post was an effort to better understand the source of the poster's animosity toward Mr. Scott... or to Mr. Scott's district.

Mr. Scoot's district HAS a majority black makeup. Can i not state the facts? The poster appears to have a problem with ...

1) the composition of the district

2) the fact that people in this district receive federal assistance (most likely due to a higher "below the poverty line" income levels perhaps)

3) have a hard time with Mr Scott representing his district.

This is not an attack. Frankly, the original poster's post was an attack.

Right wing flaggers?

Fascist* infiltration of the Pilot staff? Really hard to tell, but it goes to shows the Pilot to be disingenuous and hypocritical in the implementation of their policies. No wonder the paper is going down the tubes. Little deference to the task of true ombudsmanship and mired in the past.
*Not name calling but a serious charge.

pretend

He is pretending to listen to what people say....he is a straight line Obama Democrat and will always vote accordingly!!! What a waste of people's time and tax dollars!

Shorter EasyEv: "Bobby Scott is a Democrat"

"And he will vote Democrat!" Scintillating analysis EasyEv.

Awwww how cute :)

Bobby coming down from the mountain to talk to all of us little people pretending to care about the working families of Virginia.

The only side he is on is whatever the big party bosses in DC tell him to be on.

Do some research

The record of Mr. Scott's votes shows you are mistaken.
